| This movie: Layer Cake is a smart drug dealer in the UK. It begins with the main character (XXXX) and cheerfully narrator extolling the virtues of the drug industry when he organized and careful. He is about to retire with a little good fortune. Then everything starts to go wrong, one thing after another like the layers are added to the plot. Sometimes it seems as if the plot is too complex and there are two dangers, one out of the audience and leaving two gaping holes in the plot. Still the humor and action set pieces are enough to pull through. Not as good as Snatch and Lock Stock, etc., but is original enough to remain in their own right. Worth a look. |
| I like layer cake, but you really need to watch with subtitles as it is much easier to follow all of the characters. Michael Gambon was excellent, but not much to see Malcolm MacDowell? I liked Daniel Craig in the Layer Cake movie as James Bond, but ... I do not think so. Clive Owen would have been a better choice because it shows the "I" ll sleep when "I'm dead." What would a smart woman to do a film: Layer Cake about life under gangsters, simply does not fit. All characters were very well written and maybe we'll see more of the same from this writer. I think the British are far superior to gangster films with intricate plot lines then anyone else. My five British gangster films are: The Long Good Fidai Gangster No. 1 Layer cake I sleep when I'm dead ... and has two brothers, I do not remember the name ... anyone? |
| "Layer Cake" the neo noir Layer Cake movie by Matthew Vaughn, making his directorial debut, shows a man with enormous potential to do much better in future projects. The film, based on the novel by JJ Connelly, is a study on the drug business by some ruthless people who are doing a lot of money with their illegal trade. Point in the case, the name of the hero of the story that the figures he has played the game right now is about to make an exit from the company. Few know that his friend Jimmy Price has other ideas for him to run, no doubt driven by a desire for him in trouble, as is the case. "Layer Cake" cries of a second vision. In fact, it is probably a requirement, since it will make things clearer for the viewer can get lost in this story with many twists and turns. Daniel Craig is the best thing in the film. In fact, it remains a reminder of a young Steve McQueen cool because of his conduct and the way it seems to move effortlessly throughout the film. Kenneth Cranham as Jimmy Price is also an actor whose contribution is an asset in the film. Michael Gambon, agile and tanner is a cool boss who rules a vast empire. | Surprisingly entertaining Brit gangster pic with a subject that violence is rare these days. This is a promising debut for Matthew Vaughn. Daniel Craig is the strong silent type who finds his life unravel when his boss (Kenneth Cranham at half back) is involved in the theft of drugs rather than drug trafficking. Exceptionally for a lead, which is often outside the circuit, being deceived by all around him, and often beaten and threatened. At the end of the day, Michael Gambon comes as a gang lord who exudes a false sophistication to explain and complicate the plot. The rest of the cast are the usual mix of brooding thugs and excitable lugs, from London, Liverpool, Holland and Serbia. The Layer Cake Drama has touches of humor that is not an exaggeration, and in another touch, a murder committed when Craig was mined with shows remorse about it. London was shown to good advantage, without focusing on tourist sites. Craig is a distraction that is incredibly drawn to Sienna Miller, as if she was something special. As the character played seems to be just another fox not ring true that he would risk his future, his never-ending quest. The cake of the title makes a cameo in the final scene and it certainly looks delicious. |
