| I wanted to love this movie. I liked the concept, the fact that it was a personal DivX Movie Flashbacks of a Fool to cast and crew, and children in fashion was going around it - Brit in perhaps his best film. To be honest, I love it. Maybe I liked it, enjoyed it in parts, but certainly not the soul-achingly poignant drama that maybe I was going to be. If I'm honest I think it might also be paid much attention to the photograph of the piece and might Baillie Walsh's previous career directions terminate affected - the opening sequence was more like Tales of the unexpected in a Flashbacks of a Fool film and I think a couple of songs that are abused, thus diminishing its effect. We all have a soundtrack to our lives, but life is more than a music video, I think this has to be nuanced. The 'troubled' and cut scenes to seek the distance did nothing to add to the drama of the moment or the progression of the story itself. I thought it was watchable but I think if there had been a little more meat on the bones of the script that has been greatly improved. The actions of the players were all outstanding and convince these people that this Flashbacks of a Fool Drama movie has been a disaster, hence the reason why we gave this a 6 and not a low score. I am going to see again - probably not. I heartily recommend it to a friend - probably not. Why? Not because I think it is a terrible movie, just because its only a tenth of the Flashbacks of a Fool Drama film could have been. |
| I saw him last night. I went to bed thinking about it and woke up thinking about it. This is just my kind of movie: sensitive, poignant, melancholy, heartbreakingly beautiful. Yes, there are some things that have changed (more about Joe and boots or a scene between Joe and Ruth, and in later life), but essentially this is a DVD movie Flashbacks of a Fool about guilt and self-hatred that eventually must be faced. Imagine the effect of what he was doing when Evelyn and her daughter died when I was growing up? Before it got to about sex and about the formation of human relationships, that is, when you do, someone dies? Should have been with Ruth, but was seized by Evelyn and was not old enough to make the right decision. As it happened, all the innocence was brutally interrupted and he never had the chance. I thought Harry Eden did a fantastic job: a child on the verge of becoming a man, but so, so innocent (though mixed with some flashes of the most selfish Joe to come). We have not seen what happened to Joe fled in time between the servant and Joe - we can only guess. I loved the picture of hindsight, the soft light of summer indoors, using the waves to connect England with 70 modern LA The Roxy Music lip sync was worth the ticket price alone. The final was a little rough but I think it worked. It is painful to see Ruth finally mourn. |
| Cleverly written backward step in how our lives are mixed and are not ranked on the fact that our source for later life. The simple truth is performed here, many 30-40 somethings are numerous references to their own lives, and release the feelings we can live again. Just good acting, good story, great music, emotional and simple but very good ride, more of the same, please. Daniel Craig plays Pent up emotionally, until the actor went well, beautiful scenes in the middle of the way they were in the early seventies. Roxy Music's song played in my head for a week and then i never heard before. A must see for any fan or any romantic or spiritual psychologist or someone who lives a life with emotions ... oh thats all the time. |
