Isabel and Clara are growing up in a time of terror. It is 1492, and Spain has decreed that all Jews must either convert to Catholicism, go into exile or face trial and execution. Although forcibly baptized, the sisters are chased through Christendom until they arrive in Venice. It is in this great maritime empire, where opulence rhymes with tolerance, that Isabel organizes secret passages for refugees fleeing the Inquisition while Clara falls in love with a Venetian noble, Paolo Zane. Isabel intends for her family to go to Istanbul, the only place where Jews can live freely, but Clara is reluctant to leave. She challenges Isabel's authority and is prepared to break her family ties and sacrifice her faith for love. Caught in this battle of wills is Clara's daughter, Victoria, who finds she is about to be married into the same faith that murdered her father.

I had never heard of Ademir Kenovic before this film, but was surprised by their abilities. It is possible to pause in this fim in hundreds of places to see a masterpiece painting in the design, composition and landscape. The list of credits from one of the battalion involved in the scenery, costumes and technical support necessary for such a costume drama and it is not surprising. My main criticism is that, perhaps for reasons of vanity actors, often the characters do not wear hats or head, as they would have done in the 15th century and often appeared casually dressed in what was a very formal. The story is sufficiently complex to maintain attention without being too convoluted, which is essentially concerned with the fundamentals of human relationships and the destination. The dialogue is strong and all the players did a good job. Remember the historical drama from the BBC at its best, with the added advantage of this talented director Bosnian.

An interesting period movie: Secret Passage set against the Catholic Inquisition against the Jews in the late 15th century. SPOILERS NEXT That aspect, however, relatively little to do with the film. Is more to do with the wiles of a scheming woman (Isabel - Katherine Borowitz) to steal what was then the top secret technology - how it was Venetian glass - and bring it to the outside world, no doubt for a huge benefit. What begins as a tale of courage and survival in the face of adversity - Isabel gets the office of his sister Clara (Tara Fitzgerald), while the two are still girls - one ends in tragedy, with the implementation of Isabel drowning. The real tragedy is that she is caught for attempted theft, but was grabbed _how_. Clara betrayed by a moment of blind rage, range induced Isabel itself because of the measures that had been used to manipulate his sister in compliance with its plan. Better to leave some surprises - see the Secret Passage data. It is interesting to see Anton Rodgers, best known to me for his role in the British comedy series Fresh Fields in the role of villain. I find it astonishing the amount of IMDb's rating has improved over his average - with most other films, its opposite, a decrease. Something to do with the small number of votes? I gave him a 6 / 10.
