Softley's "Backbeat" is my favorite DVD movie Backbeat I have ever seen. I'm a huge Beatles fan and have seen many biographical movies about The Fab Four as "The Birth of the Beatles" for example, and I must admit that this 1993 production is the best of them all. This photo shows the episode of Hamburg (early 60) the career of the Beatles, and focuses on the relationship between John Lennon (Ian Hart fantastic work) and Stuart Sutcliffe (aka The Lost Beatle). Many laughs, many tears, and above all - the vast Music! A must see for Beatles fans.
It is difficult to get enough superlatives to describe a film: Backbeat as "Backbeat," a Backbeat Music film that grabbed me from the first moment I saw it and never let go. It is a Backbeat Music that has everything, great acting, great music and great dialogue, right at the love story between John, Stuart and Astrid. Ian Hart as Lennon is a revelation, which is contrary to the attention of the excellent performances by Sheryll Lee and Stephen Dorff. Dorff has certainly not improved their performance in this position. If you have not seen this movie, and if you have or have no interest in the Beatles, then on video or DVD. 10/10.
I've never been a big fan of the Beatles, and they know very little about music or there, Movies that I know and I also know that very rarely ever do tell the truth about any artist. This is a Backbeat Music movie about the time before the end of these teens became the Beatles, and Stuart Sutcliffe (he co-founded the group of John Lennon), Stuarts story is sad but the music is first class. The by Ian Hart and Stephen Dorff as Sutcliffe and Lennon are first rate, most likely inaccurate, but this is a movie. Sheryl Lee is quite good as the love interest Stu. I enjoyed this film: Backbeat that I May have to "googleize 'truth, Google, and we all know that is not the most accurate source. This is from 1994 and finally I am seeing. I'm glad I did. Rating *** 1 / 2 (4) 93 points (out of 100) IMDb 9 (10)
Finally we see the Beatles to the side that nobody really knew - what happened before and what they were before. Stephen Dorff emits just another brilliant performance as Stuart - the man who could have been but never was careful enough "Just for a few laughs along." Being a fan of the Beatles I have always been interested in his personal life and this Backbeat Music movie is more personal than any paper or news reel could. As to how true the events are no sure but it's definitely a fun movie.
What a good Backbeat Music movie that could have been. The only reason it is interesting at all is that there are no other films about this period, but please. The only historical mistakes just kill. But worst of all that do not sound anything like the Beatles. The Cavern Club just hear things and see in the Anthology which appeared just a year later. OK, the Beatles had a ball in Hamburg, drugs, girls, etc, but this is far from the mark is simply silly. Lennon comes as a complete idiot and no artistic genius as Stu, and some could barely play bass. Why is shorter than Paul Lennon? Stu and about 5ft4in high in real life. This is one of those movies you can watch over and over again, which plays like a TV DVD film Backbeat of the week, but I always feel a little used later, this was actually a rip off. Oh, and Stu was already out of the band when they recorded "My Bonnie."
I think it's particularly appropriate that "Backbeat" was released just after the 30th anniversary of the Beatles arriving in America, everybody was remembering, and then a very good movie: Backbeat shows his early days. Specifically, it focuses on when they went to Hamburg and met with Astrid Kirchherr artistic photographer. I determined that this DVD movie Backbeat is for mature audiences only: In addition to the language and sex, shown as John, Paul, George, Pete and Stu is addicted to speed so they can continue playing as a result, have little sleep and I All glassy eyes, as they set up. Truly effective is a scene just after the Beatles Stu leaves. Hope to devote his life to art, that comes and goes all drunk. Around this time, the government of East Germany erected the Berlin Wall. Watching on television, Astrid and Klaus hold hands to support each other. Stu when he sees it, it gets all violent. This scene - possibly more than any other in the Backbeat Music movie - shows his mental breakdown. Overall, a great movie. We also see that first met in Hamburg Ringo. I am sure we will all remember "Backbeat" in the coming years. Rock on, guys!
As a big Beatles fan this DVD film Backbeat was actually much better than I expected. Not sure exactly all the smallest details, but it seems to capture the raw energy of the early Beatles years and represents very well the unpleasantness that must have been a long time - far from the pop-sterile manufacturing industry today . I liked the dialogue, interaction between the characters and music, although there is no place for a number of the Beatles. Although a great fan of the Beatles in general, in particular, I am a big fan and have enormous respect for John Lennon is probably the greatest popular musician of all time. By taking into account his childhood and family history is not surprising that such a tortured soul and, as one of the other comments that says "had a chip on his shoulder." We are just lucky that this is reflected in his writing and incredible soulful singing (he certainly has the voice increasingly undervalued - just listen to Mr. Moonlight (Beatles for Sale), or if you just love (help) you do not agree). My first thought at the end of this Backbeat Music is just the proximity Lennon and Stuart Sutcliffe, and, therefore, what a huge impact of his death must have taken it. Very sad, but overall a nice uplifting film. A must for all Beatles fans and the entertainment very good for anyone.
