| I saw this selection and I must say, it was actually a very good film. Hilary Swank once again did a wonderful job as always! I know it is based on a true story, but I'm pretty sure that must have been somewhat exaggerated. I've been in Long Beach, and I know that is not too bad. But again, this was in the 90s it could be true. I also agree that Mario puts on a good performance. For a while, I forgot that it was Mario. Andre who really played his character very well. The actors who played gangsters, dealers and distributors gangsters really seemed to be too good. In addition, Hilary Swank looks very much like the real Erin Gruwell, so that was really very good. Overall, the DVD movie Freedom Writers is good. Definitely better than Dangerous Minds. My rating is "A". |
| Believe me, I am working there as a student teacher in one of the toughest cities in America. Of course the teacher Ccaucasian, I understand, sympathize, empathize and understand fully the experience of Erin Gruwell. It's hard to be a professor of English, when their students have a million other things on his mind. Of course, to admire the determination of Erin and recommended this film. From what I saw, I think Imelda Staunton is amazing in this film. Patrick Dempsey, in a supporting role as the boyfriend of Erin. Hillary Swank makes me believe and understand how Erin Gruwell, the teacher not to give up on their students. The administration is equally disappointing as the faculty. The post-Rodney King is not the integration of work at Long Beach High School. The races are so divided. To understand, you read their diaries, which shows the horrors of their young lives. She gives Anne Frank's diary to read. While I have not read his book, I am sure you can identify with the plight Anne. The line in the classroom is a good way to get to stand on their personal lives, tragedies, shootings, drugs, domestic violence, etc. Life is not easy, but for children from urban centers where their neighborhoods are destroyed by the war mentality. English as an aspiring teacher, I hope to make a difference and get students involved. For example, I am working in Newark and the bard of Newark is Philip Roth. Of course, most people do not know Roth or his works or writes about them. I went out and got them books to read and write. I will find out tomorrow how it is effective. |
