| Lars von Trier is fast becoming one of my favorite directors. Dogville is one of the few films that gets around to hold within the first minutes and not let go until the end. Nicole Kidman gives an astonishing performance as Emily Watson and Bjork did in "Dancer in the Dark" and "Breaking the Waves." Personally I think Von Trier is making fun of movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and the matrix, while the cost of $ 100 million to make. Instead of focusing solely on the aesthetics of the Dogville Thriller film focuses on the characters and their emotions. I agree that for some people who do not like having to think about movies (and I'm not saying that as something negative) Dogville is a terribly boring movie, but for any Dogville movie fan, you will find that Dogville is a masterpiece . |

| Yesterday I saw Dogville after waiting nearly a year of its launch in Mexico. I knew nothing of the film, besides the basic plot: a fugitive from justice by seeking refuge in a small town that takes advantage of it. I knew I was shot in one scene and was being criticized for being anti American. To my surprise and a great admirer of both Kidman and Von Trier, Dogville exceeded all my expectations. The DVD film Dogville is exciting and important issues throughout his imagery, raw script and strong performances, Dogville digs deeper than what their opponents are saying about him. It is not in any way an anti-American film. *** WARNING. FUTURE POSSIBLE SPOILERS *** My understanding is that the metaphor of Jesus as a female character, an arrogant rebel who denies his own father (because he does not understand her, and thus their power) and does not want to be your daughter. She kind, noble, and teaches everyone how to be a better person and how to be helpful, but ultimately will turn against it, and condemn it-metaphorically speaking-crucify her. Then, in a final surprise that is literally taken from the Bible, she decides to do the will of God in Dogville. It is a courageous decision to Nicole Kidman to make this character that can cause some major conflicts in some viewers, and its triumph is one of Von Trier to choose such an exciting way to shoot the film, after all, if God is everywhere and we see from above, you should see through walls and ceilings. This is one of the greatest films I have ever seen. |
